Snow & Ice Control Operations
Village crews will begin applying salt to roadways when either snow or ice begins to accumulate and cause unsafe traveling conditions. Public Works will apply brine solution to major roadways in advance of a storm to provide additional safety.
Crews begin an all-out plowing operation whenever two inches of snow have accumulated and when freezing temperatures indicate there will be no melting.
- Streets with high traffic volume, emergency routes, and bus routes on school days receive priority for plowing over residential, non-primary roads that typically do not have heavy traffic volume.
- Lower volume side streets and cul-de-sacs are also plowed/salted in the first phase.
- In order to increase efficiency, crews will, when feasible; one pass will be made with a snowplow out of the cul-de-sac; during the second phase, as time allows, the cul-de-sac will be further cleared.
