Residential Rental Certification Program

Landlords must certify all rental properties within the Village annually. A certificate will be issued when all of the following items have occurred.

1. Property inspection has been passed

2. Completed application form is submitted

3. Renewal fee is paid

4. Crime-Free Certification is up to date

5. Any outstanding enforcements and/or payments or liens owed to the Village are resolved

Key Dates & Deadlines

✔October 1: Every landlord will receive a personalized notice via email around this date that includes your date & time for inspections, renewal fee, Crime Free status and overall renewal instructions.

✔ November 1: Initial inspections will occur between November 1 and February 28. If the property inspection fails a re-inspection will be scheduled 10-20 days later.

✔Personalized Due Date: Your personal due date will be scheduled for 30 days after your initial inspection. All 5 requirements listed above must be met by that time to avoid late fees.

Payment of Renewal Fee

Make online payments of renewal fees at the below link (and if applicable, other fees such as for inspection no-shows).

✔ Landlords that own one rental property in the Village should enter the address of the rental.

✔ Landlords that own multiple units should enter the property owner’s name to bring up the addresses of all of your rental properties in the Village. Simply click the box of each property address, and a single invoice will be generated.

Crime-Free Housing Certification

New landlords must obtain this certification by participating in an official Crime-Free Housing seminar. The Village of Round Lake Beach offers these seminars quarterly (see schedule below), or you may provide proof of attendance at another Chicagoland seminar that is acceptable to VLRB. Call 847/546-2351 to register for Round Lake Beach’s seminar. Due to space limitation and local requirements, only those landlords that live in or own property in the 60073 zip code may attend.

Seminars are held on Saturdays, 8am to 1pm, at the RLB Police Department.
